Current Positions

Post-doctoral researcher for the European project SOM (Support and Opposition to Migration: http://www.som-project.eu)

This FP7-financed project looks at the politicization of migration in seven European countries. The aim of this comparative project is to determine why and when potential conflicts over migration become politicized, examining both anti-immigration and anti-racist movements. The project includes a large-scale claims analysis of newspaper articles.

I lead a SNSF-funded project on explaining individual attitudes toward foreigners in Switzerland. In this project we combine theory from economic and political science, and use individual-level panel data from the Swiss Household Panel (SHP).

I am the coordinator for the MOVE network

Thesis: Comparative quantitative analysis of political representation with focus on gender and ethnic minority groups. My thesis examined the factors that are associated with levels of gender, ethnic group, and ideological representation in a cross-national comparative study, finding that cultural variables and aspects of salience are probably more central to understanding political representation than generally acknowledged in the literature.
